The Catholic Engaged Encounter (CEE), a global program helping engaged couples prepare for sacramental marriage, celebrated its 50th anniversary. At their October 2024 meeting in Atlanta, new national leaders were named, including Portland residents Denise and Jerry Ramsden and Fr. Martin King.

Fr. Chi-Nhan Vo is the newest and youngest priest in the Archdiocese of Portland after completing nine years of seminary formation. At the Mass of Ordination on November 16th he was exhorted by Archbishop Sample to remember who he is as a priest, sacramentally configured to Christ The Eternal High Priest. Reiterating St. John Vianny’s testimony to the priesthood as a vessel of Jesus’ love and mercy in the work of redemption of the world, Archbishop Sample said, “Chi-Nhan, I hope that you, and all of your brother priests, will continue to be ministers of hope. The world needs hope. May you be that instrument of God’s love and mercy and hope.” The Archbishop also encouraged everyone to read Pope Francis’ encyclical on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He said to Fr. Vo, “May you image that heart to the people that you will serve.”
At St. Peter's Basilica, amid an emotional liturgy filled with both joy and tears, Archbishop Alexander K. Sample of Portland ordained 15 new deacons from the Pontifical North American College. In a subtle yet significant liturgical move, St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, Oregon, has recently returned its tabernacle to the center of the sanctuary during the Lenten season of 2024. This decision was motivated by the US Bishops’ push for strengthening belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The Cathedral’s Rector, and a former official of the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Clergy, Msgr. Gerard O'Connor, said that this small modification serves as a contribution to the ongoing Eucharistic revival in the wider Church.
