The Assumption is one of the great feasts in the Christian life and a Holy Day of Obligation in the United States. Celebrated on August 15, it commemorates the glory of Mary being with God at the end of her earthly life. Mary was taken from earthly life to enter into life with God. For Mary, the Assumption is the continuation of her participation in the life of Jesus.
Mary transfigured represents, in tradition, the hope for all baptized individuals to live this same mystery. Saved from death, Mary represents the path to follow: to unite oneself in turn with Christ. She fulfills the will created by God for human beings. It is an invitation for believers to live their future under "the mantle" of Mary, under her protection. She leads them through the path of faith to the promise of eternal life.
